How To Make Faux Floral Arrangements
Flowers, flowers, and more flowers. I recently found a deep love for flowers after creating multiple wreaths for my business Blank2Life Creations.
About 2 weeks ago while I was cleaning out my art studio I came across extra flowers from wreath making. My mom saw me packing them up and suggested that I make flower arrangements with them for the home. Well, like all her ideas it was a brilliant one!
I spent a portion of my Saturday afternoon doing just that, and they turned out gorgeous!!
This post is for you if you…
- Are looking for a spring DIY project?
- Want flowers in your home but fresh flowers aren’t practical?
- Want a low cost way to style your home?
Here’s how to make beautiful faux floral arrangements for your home that look real!
Where to purchase flowers?
Micheals is a great place to buy flowers. They have such a variety of lavenders, peachy plants (Magnolia’s, peonies), and wildflowers. The greenery they offer is extremely beautiful and some are even real touch. This helps to make the flowers look so much more real. Micheals is always having some sort of sale so make sure to take advantage of that when purchasing.

Another great place is Dollar Tree or Dollarama. You are probably thinking “really”? However, it’s true and the floral is super CHEAP! You can find the most beautiful florals at these stores starting at $1.25 for each stem. It’s a great to get started & you can mix/match in order to create gorgeous arrangements.
Other stores to check out are Walmart, Winners, Homesense, & Etsy.
Tips for picking flowers:
- Choose flowers that look realistic
- Pick focal flowers (Lol, these flower are the stars of the show)
- Pick accent flowers by color and shape that “accentuate” your focal flowers
- Purchase a decent amount of artificial greenery bunches to fill in the gaps
Other Materials Needed:
- Wire cutters
- Floral Foam, Rocks, or Old rags (Something to fill the bottom of the vase)
- Vase or large jar (Be creative when choosing a vase think abstract! You can use a large jar, or even an old bowl)
- Floral Tape (optional)
ProTip: You can find most of these materials at home!
Now that you know what materials to get and how to purchase the best flowers; let’s start creating!
Step 1: Pick A Vase & Place Your Filler
The “fillers” are needed to help secure your plants when you place them in the vase. I used rocks in my vase because my jars were clear. Using something like rocks helped to make the inside of the vase look just as pretty as the top.
If you choose your floral foam make sure to take it to the vase to keep it sturdy.
Step 2: Arrange The Artificial Greenery
Place the artificial greenery strategically in the vase to help determine the shape of the arrangement. Don’t be afraid to wire snip and bend stems to mold the plants to a desired shape.
I use this same technique when creating my faux wreaths.
Step 3: Continue to build the form of the arrangement
Add more greenery and a variety of other branch types to continue to add structure. In some of my arrangements, I used long foxtails to add some length.
Step 4: Add The Faux Flowers
You want to begin placing your flowers from largest to smallest. Start with the large flowers because then it will be clear where you may need to add the smaller flowers to fill in gaps.
If the flowers come in a bunch, don’t hesitate to snip them to various lengths to add dimensions and height to your arrangement.
Step 5: Add accent stems
Finally, add in your accent stems to create contrast in your arrangement. When placing these stems pay attention to color and try to balance out the color throughout the arrangement.
Step 6: Continue To Add, until you are satisfied
Your faux floral arrangement is done! Now find a place in your home to spotlight your DIY decor. Continue to add any excess branches until you are satisfied with your arrangement.

ProTips:
- The fuller the arrangement the better
- Experiment with different styles such as asymmetrical, symmetrical, round styles, focus on a type of flower, color specific, minimalistic, go small, etc.
I hope your floral arrangement looks exquisite! This is the easiest, cheapest diy project to create beautiful decor pieces for your home. The great thing about faux arrangements is that you can continue to switch them out or not! They will continue to look beautiful all season long.
