Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! I have a new DIY idea and I’d love to share it with you!
For any occasion, but more specifically birthdays giving a birthday card to the special person is a given. How about doing this is a different way for someone special?
Recently, my little cousin had her 13th birthday party and I wanted to get her a card but then I thought…why not create something that she can keep & cherish for a long time. I came up with a BIRTHDAY CANVAS!
Get comfy and discover how to make a DIY Birthday Canvas!
Materials:
- Canvas
- Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Sharpie marker
- Extra embellishments (optional)
Time:
- Prep time : 5 minutes
- Drawing/Paint time: 15-20min or longer (depending on the canvas size)
All these materials are easy to get at your local craft store or dollar store.
1. Pick a Design
This is essentially the cover of your card. What is the main image that you’d like on the canvas?

Pinterest is definitely a great place to start looking for ideas, they have so many DIY card ideas. Take a look and check out my Pinterest boards. https://www.pinterest.ca/ohefuaye/boards/

2. Sketch design on canvas
This part can be tricky but very simple! When I start sketching anything I always start with doing it on a scrap piece of paper. Then when I am satisfied with the design I transfer on to the canvas.

3. Paint the Canvas

Painting the canvas is definitely the most exciting part of this project. just whip out your paintbrush and paint away!
Tips:
- After painting canvas outline the borders with a sharpie marker, it makes the design stand out
- If you’d like to write a message on the canvas board, no problem. Use a thinner sharpie to get a slick look.
Optional: If you feel your canvas needs a little extra pop; add some sticker embellishments!

I hope you enjoyed this DIY article! Remember with a little creativity and DIY you can create anything special!
