OhEfuaye Book Reads in April & May

OhEfuaye Book Reads in April & May

In April & May, I read some pretty incredible books! I initially started this book journey to really embrace the avid reader that I am. I realized that since reading was such an important thing to me then I had to start prioritizing it in my life.

My goal is to read 2 new books every month (obviously this will vary depending on how busy my month is). Eventually, I want to write a book! My dream is that whatever book I write becomes a NYT Bestseller. I figured that to become a NYT Bestselling Author I should learn from NYT Bestselling Authors by reading their books.

Although this is only the start to my book reading journey I am pleased to say that it has been really successful! Not only have I become a better writer, I have also learned a lot of new things through other people’s stories and perspectives.

Here are my short reviews on both books I read in April & May!

Fear-Fighter Manual by Luvvie Ajaji

Rating: 5/5

The Fear-Fighter Manual is all about fighting your fears. Luvvie takes the reader into a conversation with themselves about their own fears and how to tackle them. The book is divided into 3 main sections BE, SAY, & DO. She shares her own personal experiences with fear, how to take up space, being confident in yourself, and much much more.

I have been following Luvvie on Instagram for some time & I’m a part of her community LuvvNation. She inspires the writer and speaker in me and honestly everytime I hear her speak I feel like my whole world just shook and I need to take action NOW. I also read her first book “I Am Judging You”. (I will definitely read it again and do a review on the blog).

This book is now by far one of my favorite books! I still go back to it ever so often to pull out certain quotes and messages that help to uplift & motivate me throughout the day.

A beautiful aspect of the novel is that it is dedicated to her late grandmother Funmilayo Faloyin. It was so intriguing to read how her grandmother had influenced so many of her views and lessons regarding fear, truth-telling, and overall life.

I laughed, reflected, and thought A LOT! I felt like a very good friend was giving me the advice that I needed to hear. Definitely a must read novel for anyone and everyone! I strongly recommend it!!

More Than Enough by Elaine Welteroth

More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are (No Matter What They Say): Welteroth, Elaine: 9780525561613: Books - Amazon.ca

Rating: 4/5

While looking for my second book read I came across More Than Enough. This book is an autobiography about Elaine’s life from childhood to adulthood. She shares how she has dealt with race, fear, success, hopes, dreaming etc.

I came across this book during my internship in December 2020 and then while looking for a second book to read months later I stumbled across it again! What really caught my eye about the book was Elaine’s confident photo on the front. The bright orange coat and her large smile was enough to make me say “yes, I need to read this book!”.

This book is packed with so many lessons that I had to have a notebook at hand to write down her words of wisdom. It is so relatable especially in the season of life that I am in right now. One of my favorite aspects was the quotes embedded throughout the book and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I was super excited when I came across a Winnie The Pooh quote!

The pages of this book technically flipped themselves. As a girl in her 20’s this book helped me unpack a lot about my own dreams/aspirations as I journey throughout my own entrepreneurship career. If you are in the midst of your 20’s or are career searching read this book!

Thanks for reading! If you liked this book review and would like to see more of them on the blog comment down below. Will you read these books? I already have my two new books lined up to start reading! Follow @oh_efuaye to stay up to date on all new content!
